“We fell in love right away. We were so happy. But… We were so consumed by our happiness… That suddenly, one day, some fear stuck me down.”
“Weaving a Story 2: Oral Stage”
“Kokoro no katachi, hito no katachi (Shape of Heart, Shape of Human)”It was hard to choose just one still from this episode or the one before it but the Sequence with Unit 01 was inspiried by this painting, I think.
That’s your fun fact of the day:)
Evangelion and Goya. The work is titled “Saturn Devouring His Son.”
The painting itself could be interpreted in different manners, though Goya’s paintings were usually based on his view of humanity during a very chaotic time to say.
This observation caught my attention, considering how both depict cannibalism, but if you recall the reaction from the members of NERV as EVA 01 consumes the Angel, it was fear directed to EVA 01 and almost..affliction towards the angel. It’s very coincidental, considering how one of the first reactions most people have towards Goya’s painting is fear and disgust towards Saturn and sympathy for the body which is being consumed.
aaaa
“…Excuse me, but I was just reading up here by myself. I don’t understand why you all are posing.”
